Friday — arrival with a point of view
Check in, unpack, put on something better than airport clothes and start with cocktails. Follow with a destination dinner and live music on Frenchmen Street. Keep the first night close enough to home that the group still likes each other Saturday morning.
Saturday — the main event
Brunch, then spend the afternoon shopping Magazine Street or hunting vintage. Return to get ready together, book the dinner everyone will remember, then choose cocktails, dancing or a second music stop. One excellent plan per part of the day beats six rushed reservations.
Sunday — recover beautifully
Choose jazz brunch or a long lunch, add beignets and coffee, then take a streetcar or wander a neighborhood before departure. Sunday should feel like an epilogue, not another endurance event.
The rule that makes the itinerary better
Do not schedule every hour. New Orleans rewards detours: a band you hear through an open door, a courtyard you did not know existed, a second round you did not plan and a shop that becomes everyone’s favorite stop.
